Michael Curry is Out as Detroit Pistons Coach

Posted by detroitsportsandmore on June 30, 2009

It has been announced today that Joe Dumars will be searching for a new coach for the new look Pistons this upcoming season. He thanked Curry for his hard work but appears to be heading in a different direction with the team.

A short list of candidates probably looks like this:

Avery Johnson

Doug Collins

Jeff Van Gundy

Bill Laimbeer

The timing of Laimbeers’ recent resignation from the Shock makes him very interesting, as does Doug Collins removing his name from consideration in other coaching vacancies. One more fun piece of news to watch for Pistons fans.

I feel very confident we will see a tough, hard work type coach and the same ball control style of play with solid defense as the center point.  Laimbeer and Johnson fit this well, but all the candidates would bring a similar style to the team.
